Q & A: I found this album in Target. I was just rummaging through the CDs in Target and saw Slippery When Wet sitting there along with other CDs from Bon Jovi. I first learned about Bon Jovi on television. I saw a reality tv show and the people on the show were singing Livin' On A Prayer. I thought that song was catchy and I started to hum the tune in my head. Then I saw a commerical for a radio station and on the commerical I heard Livin On A Prayer again. The next time I saw that commerical I asked my mom who sung Livin On Prayer. She told me Bon Jovi sung Livin' On Prayer. The next thing I knew I was over at my cousin's house downloading every Bon Jovi song I could. I generally listen to 60s, 70s, and 80s rock. I love Elvis, Lynard Skynard, Def Leppard, Journey, Queen, CCR, The Supremes, The Beatles, John Mellencamp, Styx, ELO, REO Speedwagon, Fleetwood Mac, ZZ Top, Kansas, Elton John and The Four Seasons. If I had a song to be my song, it would be Beverly Hills by Weezer because my car too is a peace of crap, my fashion sense is wack, my friends are swery like me, and I really want to live in Beverly Hills. I use CDs to listen to my music. I don't buy the CDs though, I make the CDs myself. I get my music from Limewire.

Q & A: Talladega Nights the Ballad of Ricky Bobby tells the story of Ricky Bobby, a NASCAR stock car driver. He is the number one racer in NASCAR and is part of dream driving team with his pal, Cal Naughton, Jr. The two have known each other from childhood and are known as “Shake ‘N Bake” because they finish every race in first and second, with Cal always coming second. Everything is going great for Ricky Bobby until Formula One driver, Jean Girard, comes into the picture. Jean Girard is Ricky Bobby’s biggest competition and quickly becomes NASCAR’s best and tries to ruin Ricky Bobby’s whole life. Ricky Bobby must now fight for his title as NASCAR’s best driver and maintain his personal life. I wanted to see this movie while it was in theaters, but I unfortunately couldn’t. I had to wait until it came out on DVD and I watched it with my family. I was interested in this film for two reasons. The first reason was because it was about NASCAR and what NASCAR fan wouldn’t want to see this movie, and secondly, I really love comedies and the movie looked like it would be funny. The movie being funny and about NASCAR is what made me love this movie. I would recommend this movie to somebody else even if that person doesn’t like NASCAR because Talladega Nights is still a funny movie. Although, if the person doesn’t like NASCAR some humor may be lost in translation to that person but nevertheless, Talladega Nights, very funny still.

What & Why Magazines

Q & A: I first found this magazine four years ago in my high school library. That’s why I never had a subscription. I always looked at the magazine in my school library. Premiere magazine fitted into the category of consumer/entertainment magazine because this magazine was all about movies. Premiere magazine was a magazine that any movie lover could look at, but Premiere magazine targeted mostly teenagers to young adults. I know this because Premiere magazine had actors such as Will Ferrell and Steve Carell on the cover to promote their up and coming comedy movies. I believe I was a target because I am a teenager turning into a young adult. After first finding this great magazine, I picked it to read every month. As I said before, actors such as Will Ferrell and Steve Carell were on the cover of Premiere magazine promoting their films. Will’s and Steve’s faces being on the cover made me want to read the magazine. If the magazine had their faces on the cover I knew that the issue must be good because those two actors are good. If this magazine was still around I would recommend it but unfortunately Premiere magazine folded in April of this year. However, the magazine may not be around any longer but the website is, so I do recommended checking out the website if there is ever a movie you want to know more about.

What & Why Books

It focuses on the life of Scarlett O’ Hara and her personality and social life with others in her life. Scarlett is used to show how the lifestyle of the south and its people were affected by the war and its aftermath.

Type of Reader: I am a casual reader.
Q & A: I watched the movie before reading the book and after watching the movie I wanted to read the book. I found the book in my school library and it took me a long to read all 1025 pages of the book. I felt I achieved something important even though it seems so insignificant because I knew I had just finished reading a great American classic. I would definitely recommend this book. I think everybody should read this book because it is a classic and if not this classic some other classic. If I recommend Gone With the Wind, then I would have to recommend Margaret Mitchell because
Gone With the Wind is the only book she ever wrote. I do believe there is an underlying of the story. Margaret Mitchell was a southerner and I think she was trying to make it seem like slave owning southerners did not treat the slaves bad and she was trying to teach America that the south was really good.

International Opinions of U.S. Media

I interviewed international student Sakshi from Delhi, India. When asked if the United States media was different from India’s media, Sakshi responded saying, “No not really, we have the news over in India, the only thing that is different in the United States is that the media is independent from the government.” I questioned her on that response and asked her to elaborate more on her answer. She instructed me that India has both government owned news channels and private owned news channels. As you can guess the private owned news channels are independent from the government. She also informed me that India’s media is very strong, just like the United States. In fact the first thing she noticed about the United States media is that it is very effective and very easy to reach. But having the United States media easy to reach isn’t always a good thing. Through the eyes of Sakshi and other international students, Americans take advantage of the United States media. I believe this to be true because I too take advantage of the media that surrounds me because I know I can get the media whenever I wish just by pushing a few buttons or hitting a few keys. By the end of the interview Sakshi wanted to make an important note on the many stereotypes the United States has. She wanted to let the American public know that the way Indian’s are associated with the dot on their foreheads is not a correct image of the India’s general public and she doesn’t not like the way Russian’s are associated with drinking and vodka. She says, “It is the duty of the media to take care of the stereotypes.” I really learned a lot about Sakshi’s country and their media but what surprised me the most was Sakshi’s last statement. I’ve always heard stereotypes of all races but never thought about them much but now I see that it hurts and the media really should take care of the stereotypes.
